Description
The climbing sector is located 33 kilometers south of San Pedro de Atacama, where it crosses the river flows where provides the water for the city of Toconao. Its stone is called IGNIMBRITA, that has a great adhesion for the feet and much aggressiveness for the hands.
Thanks to the close location of this place, it´s the most visited place by the local climbers. Due to the rains during the year we have great changes in the aspect of this sector. Previously it was a small valley full of trees and plantations that after a flood in 2012 where the walls were completely uncover.
The development of this sector began at 90’s with some traditional climbing routes. After the flood in 2012, the sector began to be equipped with sportive tracks. At present, we have a total of 50 tracks.
Itinerary
The walk consists of 4 hours of climbing, in the winter in the morning and in the summer in the afternoon, it has paths of different difficulties, which makes it possible for people who do not have experience to start at the easiest levels, since experienced climbers can choose by the more advanced levels.
