This volcano, along with his neighbor and brother Licancabur, dominate the view that has from San Pedro de Atacama, in the local dialect Kunza, the name means «without a head» and it is the result of a love triangle story between the volcanoes Licancabur , Juriques and the mountain Kimal. It has a crater approximately 1.5 km in diameter.

It is located 50 kilometers west of San Pedro being a border volcano between Bolivia and Chile, the road runs from San Pedro to 2,460 meters above sea level to almost 4,500 meters above sea level, which is the point where the walk starts. The road is in good condition except for the last 5 kilometers where we will need to use a 4 × 4 vehicle.

The ascending route is on the southwest face of the volcano, the slope is 40º degrees and will accompany us all the path from the mountain to the crater, once in the crater, you will need to walk along the edge to reach the highest point located on the east side, being necessary to make a way between the rocks.

Juriques volcano is a mountain where you need acclimatization and physical resistance, the climb takes between 4 to 5 hours and requires experience in hiking on steep terrain.
