Description

Located 180 km southeast of San Pedro de Atacama towards Argentina through the Sico Pass, on the way to the volcano we have a spectacular landscape, Talar salt flat, which will accompany us all day of ascent. The approach in vehicle is made by the way to the old sulfur Tuyajto, which can be seen white and yellow colors from this mineral. The summit shows us a privileged view, allowing us to see different lagoons, salt flats, volcanoes and the enormous crater that hides.

After 2 hours and a half of trip we arrive at the base of this mountain 4.400 msnm, the footpath goes by the east face and has two variants, the first one – medium level – is a very long way of hauling to arrive by a right shoulder and then to climb to the summit, the second one -high level- is a direct line to the summit with a very pronounced and exposed degree of inclination.

Tuyajto is a mountain where acclimatization and great physical condition is needed, the ascent is 7 hours and experience is required in hikes in steep terrain.
